Information Bulletin - Adult Sex Film Stickers

Commencing August 31, 2005 most adult sex films will require 2 stickers.  One sticker is to be affixed to the exterior container (e.g. the display box) and one sticker is to be affixed to the cassette.  Please note “cassette” means the physical structure that contains a film and includes a video tape, video disk, or other similar thing.

The exceptions to the two-sticker rule are:
1)   The film was approved by the Ontario Film Review Board before August 31, 2005.
2)   Double-sided Digital Video Disks

In these 2 situations only the exterior container requires a sticker.

Should you have any concerns that stickering other types of film cassettes would cause damage to the film please notify the Theatres Regulation Unit at the above address.

Sticker Format

Films previously stickered do not require re-stickering.  Stickers previously obtained can continue to be used for the film noted on the sticker as the existing sticker forms continue to be an approved form for these films.

For films stickered on or after August 31, 2005, the approved format is similar to the sticker used prior to August 31 but all stickers will contain only the purple diamond.  While the sticker continues to indicate the format of the film approved by the Board, provided the film in another format is exactly the same as in the format originally approved the stickers may be used on the other format film.

Sticker Requests

Requests for adult sex film stickers should continue to be made to the Theatres Regulation Unit.  As most films will require two stickers, orders will be processed in multiples of two.  For films which require one sticker, the 2 stickers may be used for 2 separate copies of the same film.  Please consider this when making sticker requests.  As an example should you require stickers for 100 video cassettes approved after August 31, 2005, you would order 100 sticker sets.  If you require stickers for 50 video cassettes approved before August 31, 2005, you would order 25 sticker sets as each of the sticker sets can be used for 2 separate video cassettes.
